Ms Catherine Loh

I graduated from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 2008 with a double major in Economics and Finance. While at UNSW, I conducted lessons for primary and secondary students in South West Sydney. Having discovered an aptitude for working with children and having felt called to the teaching profession, I set up a home-based centre in 2009, providing after- school help for students.

In 2011, I pursued a Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) and Certificate IV in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at International House, Sydney. The two courses focused on differentiated instruction for English Language Learners and gave me the opportunity to engage with groups of learners from diverse educational backgrounds and proficiencies. Upon completion of CELTA, I worked as a part time language teacher, coaching the English language to international students of elementary and upper intermediate levels.

In 2012, I moved to Singapore and joined a premium enrichment centre as an English teacher. During my 10 years there, I taught students from Primary 2 to Primary 6 and crafted curriculum. As a teacher, I am attracted to the prospect of utilising and expanding my knowledge and skills in delivering lessons that guide students to successful learning outcomes.

Ms Chloe Chu

An alumna of RGS and RJC, I graduated from Singapore Management University with a double major in Economics and Finance.

Inspired by my own experience of having an English tutor who made lessons deeply memorable, I joined a premium enrichment centre.

During my 10 years there, I taught primary school students in English, with a focus on helping Primary 6 students on their journey to achieving their personal best in the PSLE. I also crafted curriculum and mentored new teachers.

In 2015, I pursued a Master of Education (Curriculum and Teaching) which deepened my understanding of curricular concepts. I find great joy in researching and developing strategies to help my students as they discover the beautiful, quirky but sometimes confusing world of the English language.

I graduated with a Bachelors in English Language and Literature from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2011 and joined a premium enrichment centre as a teacher upon graduation from 2011 to 2015 where I taught English (Primary and Secondary), wrote curriculum and mentored new teachers. As a part-time tutor at NUS, I conducted the introductory linguistics tutorials from 2011 to 2013. I enjoy engaging students from different backgrounds and levels.

In August 2015, I was awarded a full scholarship for a Master’s in Psychology at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). For my Master’s, I investigated multi-sensory processing in the brain and its links to reading. I have been working as a research associate at NTU since 2018, focusing on the factors influencing bilingual language acquisition. I am deeply interested in how our brains process language and how to develop teaching techniques from current research.

Ms Rachel Ma

I graduated with a Bachelors in Accountancy from Singapore Management University (SMU) in 2009 but discovered a love for teaching as a teaching assistant for writing and communication modules. At the SMU Centre for English Communications, I conducted Brown Bag Lunches and writing workshops for undergraduates.

As a Senior Teacher at a premium enrichment centre from 2009 to 2017, I taught English (Primary and Secondary), trained teachers and wrote curriculum. Having obtained a Masters of Education (Curriculum) from the National Institute of Education (NIE) in 2015, with distinctions in Educational Inquiry (I and II), Curriculum Theory, Crafting Curriculum, Cooperative Learning, Gifted and Critical Inquiry (on educating gifted children) and Pedagogical Contexts in the 21st Century, I am currently furthering my studies in English and Literature at the University of Oxford via distant learning.

My students are my pride and joy; I hope to equip them with not only knowledge and examination techniques but also a capacity to find joy, wonder and resilience to undertake the hurdles of life.

In 2011, I graduated from Singapore Management University (SMU) with a Bachelor's degree in Business Management, double majoring in Finance and Corporate Communications.

For six years, I worked in a corporate setting while volunteering as a Sunday school teacher and with ReadAble, a reading program for underprivileged children. It was during my time at ReadAble that I discovered my passion for teaching and helping children reach their full potential in both academic and personal growth.

Since then, I have taught at a premium enrichment center, working with primary school students from Primary One to Primary Six. Having seen many batches of students graduate, I have gained confidence in what it takes to be a successful learner in Singapore's education system.

My teaching approach incorporates real-life applications by integrating current societal issues, fostering empathy, resourcefulness, and resilience in my students to prepare them for an ever-changing world.

During my time at SMU, I served as the President of the Students' Association in 2009. This experience allowed me to cultivate valuable communication and leadership skills, which I hope to impart to my students in my English lessons. My goal is for my students to view English not only as a subject but as a crucial medium of communication and a tool for expressing their creativity and individuality.
